The Hijri calendar

The Islamic months

The Islamic (Hijri) calendar is a lunar calendar of twelve months, each beginning with the sighting of the new crescent — a framework for ʿibādah, reflection and spiritual growth.

1 · Muharram

A sacred month; the Day of ʿĀshūrāʾ (10th) — recommended fasting.

2 · Safar

A month like any other; a time to strengthen tawakkul — trust in Allah.

3 · Rabīʿ al-Awwal

The Prophet ﷺ's birth month; increase ṣalawāt and study the Sīrah.

4 · Rabīʿ al-Thānī

A time for steady worship, Qur'an and reflection.

5 · Jumādā al-Ūlā

A quieter month; strengthen daily routines of dhikr and Ṣalāh.

6 · Jumādā al-Thāniyah

Renew intentions and du'ā ahead of the sacred months.

7 · Rajab

A sacred month; associated with al-Isrāʾ wal-Miʿrāj.

8 · Shaʿbān

Preparation for Ramadan — voluntary fasting and Qur'an.

9 · Ramadan

The most blessed month; fasting, Tarāwīḥ and Laylat al-Qadr.

10 · Shawwāl

Begins with Eid al-Fiṭr; the six recommended fasts.

11 · Dhū al-Qaʿdah

A sacred month of peace; prepare for Hajj.

12 · Dhū al-Ḥijjah

The best ten days; Hajj, the Day of ʿArafah and Eid al-Aḍḥā.

How our times are calculated

Methodology

Unified Ulama Committee

We follow the London Salah Times set by the Unified Ulama Committee — the standard adopted by masājid across the capital.

Asr — Hanafi

Asr begins at the later (Hanafi) time, in keeping with the practice of our community.

Ramadan & Eid

During Ramadan, Suhūr (Sehri) and Iftar times appear automatically. Eid jamāʿah times are announced here each year.
