← All madrasah policies

Introduction

The Brick Lane Jamme Masjid Madrasah is dedicated to fostering an environment where students can thrive spiritually, academically, and socially. Regular attendance and positive behaviour are essential for students to benefit fully from their time at the Brick Lane Jamme Masjid Madrasah. This policy outlines our expectations for attendance and behaviour, as well as the procedures for addressing concerns in these areas.

Policy aim and objectives

The purpose of this attendance and behaviour policy are to:

  • Encourage regular attendance and punctuality to ensure students make the most of their learning opportunities.
  • Promote positive behaviour and respect for all members of the Brick Lane Jamme Masjid Madrasah community.
  • Establish a clear framework for dealing with attendance and behavioural issues.

Attendance policy

Expectations

  • Students are expected to attend every scheduled Brick Lane Jamme Masjid Madrasah session unless there is a valid reason for absence. Regular attendance is essential for achieving high standards and maximising the benefits of Islamic education. For students to gain the most from their learning experience, it is crucial that they attend the Brick Lane Jamme Masjid Madrasah on time every day it is open, except in cases where absence is genuinely unavoidable.
  • Punctuality is essential; students should arrive on time and be ready for lessons.
  • Parents/guardians must inform the Brick Lane Jamme Masjid Madrasah of any absences as soon as possible, providing a valid reason.

Reporting absences

  • Parents should report absences by phoning the Brick Lane Jamme Masjid Madrasah mobile number before the session starts.
  • Absences for medical reasons should be supported by a doctor's note and communicated in advance in writing.

Authorised absences

Authorised absences are absences from Brick Lane Jamme Masjid Madrasah for a good reason such as illness, medical/dental appointments which unavoidably fall in Brick Lane Jamme Masjid Madrasah time, emergencies or other unavoidable cause.

Unauthorised absences

Unauthorised absences are those which the Brick Lane Jamme Masjid Madrasah does not consider reasonable and for which no "leave" has been given. These include (but are not limited to):

  • Parents/carers keeping children off Brick Lane Jamme Masjid Madrasah unnecessarily.
  • Absences for day trips/holidays in term time which have not been agreed.
  • Truancy before or during the Brick Lane Jamme Masjid Madrasah day.
  • Absences which have never been properly explained.
  • Shopping, looking after other children or birthdays.

Monitoring Attendance

  • Attendance will be monitored regularly, and patterns of absence will be addressed promptly.
  • If attendance falls below 90% in one academic term, the Brick Lane Jamme Masjid Madrasah may arrange a meeting with parents/guardians to discuss the reasons for absence and agree on steps to improve attendance.

Punctuality

  • Punctuality is essential for a productive learning environment. When a child arrives late, they not only miss valuable learning time but also the opportunity to settle into the class and engage with the initial lesson plan. Additionally, late arrivals can disrupt the flow of the lesson and the focus of other students.
  • Children will receive a late mark if they are not in class by the end of registration. Persistent lateness will require action, and parents/carers may be invited to meet with the Headteacher to address the issue and work on a resolution. We encourage parents/carers to communicate with us at any time if they are facing difficulties in getting their children to the Brick Lane Jamme Masjid Madrasah on time.

Brick Lane Jamme Masjid Madrasah hours

  • The Brick Lane Jamme Masjid Madrasah operates Evening Madrasah from Monday to Thursday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and Weekends on Saturday & Sunday 10:00am to 1:00pm. Students will not be allowed to enter the classroom more than 10 minutes before the start of class; therefore, they should not be dropped off before 4:50 pm on weekdays and 12:50pm on weekends.
  • It is equally important that all students are collected promptly at the end of the Brick Lane Jamme Masjid Madrasah day. This ensures the safety and well-being of all children and allows staff to carry out their responsibilities effectively.

Trips and visits

During educational visits, including residential trips, pupils are expected to uphold the highest standards of behaviour and good manners, acting as exemplary ambassadors for the Brick Lane Jamme Masjid Madrasah.

To ensure a successful trip, clear expectations will be communicated to both pupils and their parents beforehand. This will include specific circumstances under which a pupil may be excluded from or prevented from participating in the planned trip.

As part of the trip's formal risk assessment, the Headteacher or teacher will assess whether any recent behaviour poses a potential risk to other pupils or staff. Appropriate measures will be identified to mitigate these risks. In extreme cases, where risks cannot be adequately managed, a pupil may be excluded from the trip. If such a decision is made, parents will be informed, and alternative arrangements for the pupil will be provided at the Brick Lane Jamme Masjid Madrasah during the trip.
