Nikah & Marital Service

Marriage is one of the greatest Sunnah of the beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. We are honoured to conduct your Nikah at the masjid, led by an experienced Imam or scholar, in keeping with the Sunnah.

A Nikah at Brick Lane Jamme Masjid is conducted with dignity and joy in our historic prayer hall. Our Imams will guide you through every part of the ceremony, ensuring the marriage is valid, witnessed and recorded in accordance with Islamic guidelines. Below is everything you need to know to prepare.

Before the day

Requirements

For the Nikah to proceed, the following conditions must be met by the couple.

Both partners Muslim

Both the bride and groom must be Muslim, ensuring religious compatibility.

Both parties must be at least 18 years of age.

Mutual consent

The marriage requires the free and mutual consent of both the bride and the groom.

Each partner must provide the following. Please bring originals — and a photocopy of each for the masjid to retain.

· Original birth certificate.

· Divorcees — your Decree Absolute and Talaq documents.

· Widows & widowers — your former spouse's death certificate.

· Converts — a Shahādah letter or conversion certificate may be required.

All of the documents listed above must be original documents, and you should also bring a photocopy of each document for the masjid to retain.

On the day

The ceremony

The Nikah is a short, beautiful gathering. It typically includes the following components.

The ceremony opens with recitation from the Holy Qur'an.

2 · Khutbah

A short sermon (khutbah) reminding the couple and guests of the meaning of marriage.

3 · Consent

The Imam seeks the consent of both the bride and the groom before witnesses.

4 · The contract

The marriage contract is signed by the parties and witnesses.

5 · Du'ā

The gathering concludes with supplications (du'ā) for the new couple.

6 · Dates & refreshments

Dates and refreshments follow, in keeping with Islamic guidelines.

Your Nikah certificate

Two signed copies are provided — one each for the bride and the groom — available within two weeks. The names on the certificate match the photo ID documentation you provide.

There are no fees published for the Nikah service. Any costs are arranged on enquiry — please contact the masjid to discuss your booking and any applicable charges.

All of the above is for your general guidance only. It should not be taken as the law.
