Lā ilāha illā Allāh

Taking the Shahādah

Taking the Shahādah is the moment a person openly affirms faith in Islam. It is a simple declaration with a profound meaning: to testify that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad ﷺ is the Messenger of Allah.

Whether you have been reflecting for years or have arrived at this moment quickly, you are welcome here. There is no pressure and no expectation — only a warm, patient conversation and, when you are ready, the chance to declare your faith in the embrace of a community that has welcomed newcomers for centuries.

What to expect on the day

A calm, welcoming experience

There is no need to prepare anything. Here is how the day usually unfolds.

1 · A conversation first

A private, unhurried meeting where we listen, answer your questions, explain the meaning of the Shahādah, and gently confirm you feel ready.

2 · Taking the Shahādah

The declaration is recited in Arabic and then in English — either privately, or with witnesses present, whichever you prefer.

3 · A certificate, if needed

A Shahādah certificate can be provided for your personal records, marriage, Hajj or Umrah, or other official purposes.

4 · Your next steps

Together we discuss the practical next steps on your journey, at a pace that suits you.
